A custom-built, fast response medium wave (FRMW) infra-red heating system from HERAEUS NOBLELIGHT is helping in the production line fitting of sound-deadening pads to the Jaguar F-TYPE at Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing site at Castle Bromwich. Following successful tests carried out at Heraeus’s Neston Applications Centre, a compact 12 kW medium wave infra-red oven was installed at the pad fitting location on the production line. This is contained within a 1.6m aluminium framework, which features two heated zones, each equipped with three, 2kW fast response medium wave emitters with integral gold reflectors for maximum efficiency.
SICK has announced it has launched stainless steel versions of its fully-programmable DFS60 incremental encoders and AFM60 and AFS60 absolute encoders making them available for duties in hygienic and corrosive environments for the first time. The company says the SICK DFS60 Inox, the AFM60 Inox and the AFS60 Inox programmable encoders feature a rugged stainless steel housing, flange and shaft and they deliver high-resolution, precision performance in aggressive environments such as chemical washdown, salt and high humidity atmospheres with an operating temperature range from -30°C to 85°C.

RITTAL says small drives for machines and equipment are typically powered up to 9.0 A and are protected by conventional motor circuit breakers. However, when space in the enclosure is limited, it can be very difficult to find room for significant numbers of protective components. Rittal says its new motor controllers for its RiLine Compact power distribution system offer a sophisticated solution and to help engineers, it has also produced a 3D configurator that reduces the time required to generate Compact RiLine busbar systems.
LAMINA DIELECTRICS specialises in the manufacture of heat shrink tubes and endcaps for electrical insulation applications and says it has developed unique spiral-winding and extrusion technology which uses UL recognised materials for its range of tubes and endcaps. During 2017 Lamina says it made significant investment in its manufacturing systems which included updating its statistical process control software as part of its ongoing support for its automatic inspection equipment.
ADEPT PURE WATER, a specialist in water purification equipment, reports it has supplied a reverse osmosis plant to Brompton Bicycle, the folding bike manufacturer. The high quality finish on Brompton’s bikes is the result of corrosion resistant powder coating. “We are looking to meet at least 1000 hours in salt spray testing”, says factory manager Tony Hobbs, “and that means that surface preparation is absolutely critical. The best way of achieving high quality surface is by using pure water.”
The new logistics centre at the JACOB headquarters in Porta Westfalica, Germany, is now fully operational. The company says with more than 7,500 square metres of space, the state of the art hi-rise logistics centre became effective during January, following the transfer from the existing warehouse over the Christmas holiday period.
