Bofa International - Additive Manufacturing & 3D Printing Safety Seminar
Category: Organisation Event
Location: Online
As additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing technologies continue their rapid penetration across multiple industry sectors, businesses and organisations are being urged to improve their knowledge about the potential health and safety risks posed by the processes…and what can be done to mitigate these.
AM is known to emit potentially harmful fume, gases and particulate, including nanoparticles, so BOFA International, specialists in portable fume and dust extraction, is delivering a free virtual seminar on 19th March to help companies better understand the hazards.
‘Additive manufacturing / 3D printing safety: What you need to know now’ will be hosted by the company’s industry experts with keynote sessions from R&D, Product Management and Applications Engineering. Together they will explore the risks presented by emissions linked to processes such 3D metal printing and stereolithography.
Luke Ziolkowski, Global Business Development Manager, commented: “AM is growing across multiple industry sectors, including automotive, defence, aerospace, medical devices and electronics, thanks to its ability to shorten production cycles, lower tooling costs and reduce waste material. Recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen just how valuable AM and 3D printing has been to deliver essential supplies in quick time. However, there is growing evidence that these processes require extraction systems that can filter and capture particulate and fume – including nanoparticles – and return clean air into the environment.”
The hour-long session will help delegates understand the need for fume extraction, look at effective air filtration systems, including the use of carbon filters, to prevent ultrafine particles reaching breathing zones.

The webinar will provide an overview of defect analysis using ZYGO's Mx™ metrology software and explore a wide variety of methods for identifying and quantifying defects on different surfaces. This will allow companies to determine the best defect analysis technique for their samples and to learn how to employ the appropriate analysis tools in their process.

This year’s International Materials Handling Exhibition (IMHX 2021) will be delivered as a virtual event with the physical show returning in September 2022.
The show’s organisers, Informa Markets and the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA), described the decision to reposition IMHX 2021 as “necessary given current restrictions” but one “that opens a world of new opportunities for participants.”
Rob Fisher, Group Director IMHX, said: “Virtual events and their platforms have grown in effectiveness over the last year and now play a vital role when it comes to generating qualified, in-market, sales leads. IMHX Connect (13-17 September 2021) will harness best-in-class platforms to deliver an engaging series of industry updates and technology briefings along with the opportunity for visitors to build relationships with industry-leading intralogistics solution providers.”
Tim Waples, Director of BITA and Chief Executive of the UK Materials Handling Association (UKMHA), added: “Given the uncertainty and disruption that Covid-19 continues to create we felt that a prompt decision, regarding the hosting of IMHX 2021, was required. By acting decisively, we have been able to provide exhibitors and visitors with plenty of notice so that they can adapt their plans accordingly.”
Fisher concluded: “IMHX is organised by the industry for buyers of intralogistics equipment and solutions. The relationship we have with BITA provides us with strategic insights and the ability to judge the mood and appetite of participants. Exhibitors share our vision for IMHX and are supportive of our decision to delay the physical event until 2022. The launch of IMHX Connect is exciting, it adds to our reach and audience engagement opportunities and complements our plans for when we return to the NEC with the full IMHX Experience in September 2022.”

Pump Industry Awards
Category: Organisation Event
Location: Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth
Following the UK Government’s recently announced ‘roadmap’ to the lifting of its COVID-19 restrictions, the BPMA and it event organiser, Touchwave Media, have been forced once again to postpone its 2020/21 Pump Industry Awards Ceremony, hitherto scheduled for the evening of Thursday 1st July 2021.
Having already rescheduled the event several times from its original date in March 2020, it is very much hoped that the proposed timeline mapped out by the Prime Minister, will indeed deliver the eagerly anticipated relaxation of the rules.
However, with caution being the watch word over the coming months, whilst the vaccine roll-out continues apace and public confidence develops, the event has now been rescheduled to the evening of Thursday 23rd September 2021. The Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth will be retained as the venue for this special evening of reward and celebration.
Commenting on the decision, Steve Schofield, CEO at the BPMA said: “Whilst the health and safety of attendees continues to be our priority, the credibility and delivery of the overall awards presentation for all those involved – Members, Sponsors, Finalists, and Winners - remains a key consideration. This is especially so as we look to celebrate its 20th Anniversary in what is the BPMA’s 80th year.”
