Modular & live storage solutions

Published:  21 February, 2014

SSI SCHAEFER has been working with Parvalux Electric Motors to design and install efficient storage solutions in the production facility based in Bournemouth.

Parvalux has been manufacturing geared motor solutions for a wide range of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) all over the world for the past 65 years. It is a professionally managed company with high standards of business practice and has evolved over the years from manufacturing geared motors sold as a standard catalogue offer, to working closely as an extension of its customers’ design teams.

Some 15 months ago, the company made a conscious decision to make improvements to the production of the electric motors and called on the expertise of SSI Schaefer to assist. Schaefer reviewed, assessed and undertook design work for 18 new assembly cells for Parvalux and has installed its KDR Flow Beds and Regal 3000 Tilt systems into one of these cells. Parvalux is gradually revamping all of its production cells so further assistance is likely to be required from SSI Schaefer.

The company reports KDR is a versatile live storage shelving system with secure and stable upright frames combined with reinforcing cross beams which form a ‘racking frame’ to house entire flow bed units. The flow beds were installed between the work benches and can be modified quickly as required and without screws using adjustable hooks.

The SSI Schaefer R3000 modular shelving system provides an ideal storage solution for Parvalux. Made from high quality, galvanised steel the shelving system is extremely versatile offering adjustable shelves, single-tier and multi-tier frame heights resulting in a tidy, clean, efficient, ergonomic environment allowing for improved control of stock.

Nick Hughes, SSI Schaefer sales executive responsible for the South West and South Wales commented: “We were delighted to work with Parvalux on this project. We had a very good working relationship with the team at Parvalux from the outset and this continued throughout the duration of the project. The company had never used flow rack systems before, but appreciated the benefits of both the KDR flow beds and R3000 shelving systems in terms of efficiency and improved control of products.”

Mark Shearer, commercial director at Parvalux added: “The main objective of this project was to make improvements to our processes so that our production lines operated in a leaner and more efficient manner. I’m very pleased to report that through their solutions-oriented approach, what SSI Schaefer has delivered has enabled us to achieve just that and we now have a much improved working environment for our team.”
