ABB says it is responding to the growing consumer demand for choice and fast delivery with the launch of its FlexBuffer application cell. ABB says the FlexBuffer brings new levels of flexibility for logistics, food and beverage, healthcare, consumer packaged goods, restaurants and retailers, offering a highly adaptable multi-functional solution for handling a variety of tasks such as sequencing, buffering, storage and order consolidation.
“The constantly changing nature of today’s consumer landscape and the explosion of ecommerce is challenging the conventional systems used for processing and delivering orders,” says Marc Segura, group senior vice president managing director consumer segments & service robotics at ABB. “The FlexBuffer helps our customers meet these challenges by bringing automated storage and retrieval and goods sequencing to all facilities.”

ABB reports it has expanded its Quantis modular gear drive range to offer four and five stages of gear reduction for all three types of gear arrangements: in-line helical (ILH), offset parallel (MSM) and right angle helical bevel (RHB). The company says Quantis reducers and gearmotors can now be configured in ratios over 7500:1 with an output torque range up to 14,000 Nm, making the new output speed range 20 times greater than before.
ABB reports it has expanded its family of small robots with the addition of the IRB 1200. Featuring a compact design, the IRB1200 is primarily aimed at materials handling and machine tending applications demanding flexibility, ease of use, compactness and short cycle times while still maintaining large working envelopes.
