Celebrating 20 years solving engineering problems

Published:  30 July, 2024

Engineering project management firm FEG Global has announced it is is marking 20 years in business this August and says from its conception in 2004 it has grown into a respected international engineering project management operation, with offices in UK and Europe.

Based in Washington, North East England, the business provides engineering project management services to a variety of sectors across the globe, including manufacturing, power, pharma and chemicals and plastics. In particular, its work in the food & beverage production industry is globally recognised, having delivered projects for companies such as McVitie’s, Hovis and 2 Sisters.

Managing Director Chris Williams said: “We started out as just a small team of engineering experts who wanted to set a new standard of excellence in engineering design and project management for our clients. From there we have gone from strength to strength, with a lot of hard work, determination and perspiration – but also some luck along the way, which is often the case in business.”

The company says it is celebrating with a series of events this summer, including a team outdoor pursuits celebration and various “cake parties” – timed with their attendance at exhibitions such as ChemUK and PPMA.

Stuart Turnbull, Project Director explained: “20 years is a fantastic achievement. In that time we have seen a global recession, a world-stopping pandemic and huge economical and societal shifts. The business has remained strong by keeping up-to-date with market and technological movements and staying true to its goal of delivering a quality service. We are hugely proud of our client retention rate and for good reason – all of the team are so passionate about what they do and our success is down to them.”

The business now boasts some 20+ staff across its engineering divisions and support services, with expertise across mechanical, electrical, chemical, automation and structural disciplines, who work as project managers, engineers or even direct in-house engineering resource for clients. With this scope of team FEG Global has been able to deliver over £100m+ in work scope over more than 400 projects.

A family-owned operation, the business is headed by Chris Williams with the support of his wife Grace Williams in the offices, along with the various teams.

Williams continued: “As with any business, we have had ups and downs over the years, and the path to growth is never smooth, but there are some key moments in particular that stand out for us. We delivered our first turnkey project in 2005 for Kimberly-Clark, and this was important to us because it represented full ownership of projects on behalf of clients. In 2007 we delivered our first ever individual project over £1m and that is one of our warmest corporate memories. The opening of our HQ offices – first in the UK in 2016 and secondly in Belgium in 2020 - were also key moments in the expansion of the operation. It is now business as usual for us to have one team designing and co-producing a factory in Africa while another is working on a shell fish processing plant in Denmark.”

The business now plans to build on its success with ongoing international and UK growth, honing in on sectors and industry movements where quality, precision engineering design and project management is valued.
