HMS Sultan’s engineering courses accredited by SOE

The Royal Naval marine and air engineering training facility, based at HMS Sultan in Gosport, recently hosted an event to acknowledge the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) accrediting several of their courses.
Following an inspection by the Society"s Professional Standards team earlier in the year, the Royal Navy's engineering courses were approved to meet the globally respected Engineering Council UK (ECUK) standards, Engineering Technician (EngTech) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
HMS Sultan is the home of the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering (RNSME) and the Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival School (RNAESS). The facility"s purpose is to supply the Navy’s fleet with an engineering contingent of the highest calibre. Using modern training facilities and procedures, HMS Sultan prepares men and women to operate and maintain the extensive and highly sophisticated range of machinery and equipment found in Royal Navy ships, submarines and aircraft.
SOE is a membership organisation representing engineering professionals in the transport, plant and engineer surveying sectors. The event marks an exciting time for both the Royal Navy and SOE, who already has extensive experience supporting the engineering arms of both the Army and Royal Air Force.
Chief executive Nick Jones and Immediate past president Ian Ling, himself a former Navy engineer, led the SOE delegation to HMS Sultan, presenting a plaque commemorating the outstanding engineering training conducted at the base. Nick Jones said: "HMS Sultan is a credit to the Royal Navy and, from an engineering perspective, provides a wealth of high-quality training and experience the entire profession will benefit from.”
Speaking to the audience of Naval engineers, Nick Jones joined Captain Graham Watts and Lt Cdr Peter Lee to speak of the engineering profession’s vital contribution to both the Navy and wider society. The engineers were then welcomed by Nick, and Lt Cdr Lee, to enter SOE membership to continue their professional development, ensuring their training is recognised and appreciated by ECUK and, therefore, both inside and outside of the Royal Navy.
