The Industry's Voice For Over 30 Years

Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering opens 2027 nominations

The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering (QEPrize) is inviting nominations for the 2027 QEPrize to recognise trailblazers in the field shaping the next wave of groundbreaking engineering applications.

From overcoming physical limitations once thought to be lost forever to the advancement of Modern Machine Learning and diversifying the global energy mix with wind turbine technology, the QEPrize honours those addressing some of the most complex societal challenges. The QEPrize demonstrates the profound power of engineering to benefit industries, economies and the planet.

“Engineering is not only a catalyst for innovation, but a pathway for young people who will build the future solutions that fuel economic growth. The call for nominations creates an opportunity to shine a light on the incredible life-changing work currently happening across all corners of the globe.” Lord Vallance, Chair, Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering Foundation

The QEPrize aims to provide a source of inspiration for the next generation of pioneers as recent data shows promising growth among students pursuing engineering degrees in the UK and the US, in particular. Amid rapid technological change, one constant unites the 42 QEPrize Laureates, a passion for problem-solving and redefining the limits of possibility. These are traits modern engineering students can cultivate and apply across disciplines as they consider emerging career opportunities.

“One of the most striking themes in recent years, as we review nominations, is the collaboration taking place across fields and across generations of engineers. This shared sense of purpose and ingenuity creates the conditions for bold ideas to flourish and solutions which benefit from a rich diversity of perspectives.”Professor Dame Lynn Gladden, Chair of Judging Panel, Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

“The beauty of engineering lies in its power to drive progress, from the technologies we rely on each day, often without noticing, to the innovations redefining industries on a global scale. Through the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, we are proud to celebrate the brilliance brought forward through the nominations we receive.”Jonathan Narbett, Director, Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

The QEPrize is an international award with nominations accepted from anywhere in the world. The £500,000 prize is awarded to up to 10 engineers.
