Improved storage capabilities

Published:  24 September, 2009

Knorr Bremse Rail Systems (UK) Ltd called on long-standing supplier to The Knorr Bremse Group, SSI Schaefer, to deliver an extended storage facility within its site in Melksham, Wiltshire following an increase in customer orders and the need to improve its storage capabilities.

The building of the extension is designed around the pallet racking installation; which meant that SSI Schaefer had to be as accurate as possible during the build and design stages of the project, allowing the installation to integrate with ease into the existing facility causing minimum disruption to ongoing operations.

Bill Dudley, facilities manager, said: “The racking and building works were completed on time and to budget. We have a long-standing relationship with SSI Schaefer that started back in 2005 when we moved from Chippenham to our current purpose built site in Melksham. The original site development, which is still working well for Knorr Bremse, includes Schaefer’s racking, shelving, tilt shelving, mesh partitioning and plastic containers, but this has now been given a much-needed boost with the installation of the new PR600 pallet racking extension.”

The additional storage site will now enable Knorr Bremse to provide its customers with an improved service in going forward, allowing for future expansion with ease.
SSI Schaefer’s PR600 pallet racking system provides strong heavy-duty shelving for multi-location storage and quick handling on a daily basis. For further information please visit: www.ssi-schaefer.co.uk
