Published:  17 September, 2009

The Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Mumbai Local Network is celebrating 75 successful years of sharing engineering and technology knowledge in India.

Formed in 1934, the network began as a committee of local members before becoming a branch in 1956. With 250 corporate members, the network is at the forefront of bringing together the engineering and technology community and sharing knowledge.

It organises monthly technical lectures given by leading experts, as well as arranging technical visits, annual technical workshops and national and international conferences.

The network also has services for young people who are interested in a career in engineering. To date, it has five student branches spread over Mumbai, Pune and Nashik. Activities include electronic design and English language workshops, Chrysalis, a student paper contest at the College of Engineering Pune and Present Around The World (PATW), a presentation contests for students.

Last January, the network worked alongside the IET’s Multimedia Communications Network to organise the first ever conference on wireless, mobile and multi media, attracting more than 100 respected delegates from across the world.

Chairman of the IET Mumbai Local Network, Mr. G S Tuteja said: “It is a matter of great privilege for me to be presiding over the IET Mumbai Network in its 75th year of its onward journey. During these years, the network has grown tremendously.
“Our aim is to make the network more vibrant and active to be able to meet the needs of our esteemed members.”
