Take-away solutions

For many years companies have realised that renting buildings, vehicles and equipment is tax efficient and supports cash flow.  PWE looks at some of the latest developments in this versatile sector.

Conducting assessment and measurements in the workplace or in the environment can mean dealing with a lot of equipment issues such as capital outlay, storage and care, maintenance and calibration and never having just the right features and functions you need for the current job.

A new instrumentation rental service from Castle Group - CastleRent - provides calibrated equipment for short or long term rentals to cover occasional work, immediate requirements, specific contracts or specialist jobs for noise, vibration, audiometry, air sampling or gas detection, with delivery almost always the next day.

Renting equipment can also be beneficial for tax purposes, as rental can be written off entirely against profits as opposed to capital purchases that are subject to depreciation rules.

Equipment can be booked on-line for any despatch date including the same day if stock allows. Rental periods start at three days and the longer the term, the better the price. Special contract rates are available for rentals of more than a month. Return carriage and accidental damage waiver are also available taking the onus off the user having to make special arrangements and all the options are available at www.castle-rent.com

Racking and shelving

Other recent developments include the launch of Rentarack by Nene Group, which highlights the versatility of the rental sector. This new option could provide a cost effective way for companies within the UK, Ireland and the EU to rent racking for limited and fixed term contracts.

All types of racking and shelving, including specialist racking such as live and drive in storage, are available for hire for any size facility and for any period of time from two weeks to 10 years. Ancillary equipment such as guards, mesh, decking, signage and netting, etc can also be included within the rack hire contract.  Furthermore, existing storage systems can be supplemented with beams and decking to cover short-term requirements for storage or picking locations.

Nene says it will supply, deliver and install all racking to SEMA and current Health & Safety guidelines.  Standard hire costs include the supply of racking components and/or ancillary items, installation and commissioning, health & safety inspection, dismantling at end of term and transport from site.  Racking inspections are carried out every six months by qualified staff and a full report and quotation given to the customer who must act upon the recommendations. Repairs are carried out in-house by Nene to ensure that the racking is always maintained in optimum condition and to remove concerns about potential health & safety hazards.

The company also claims Rentarack can save managers time and effort in gaining approval for capital expenditure thereby ensuring prompt delivery for potential new business. It also enables companies to claim 100% capital allowances from the Inland Revenue for the rental, which can work out cheaper than paying cash.

When the contract expires, companies have the option of extending it on a month-to-month basis, entering into a secondary agreement, normally at a reduced rate, or having the storage dismantled.  Alternatively the racking can be purchased from Nene at a favourable rate.  In addition to lease rental, Nene will also provide Rentarack as lease purchase or as a half purchase and half rental scheme for companies wishing to split the cost over a period of time.

Dew Point Hygrometers

Due to a significant demand in the market, Michell Instruments has made four of their most popular dew point hygrometers available for hire.

Offering the customer free packing and carriage in the UK and free technical, and applications support. Each product is calibrated to National Standards and calibration is re-verified before delivery.

Products available include Michell's portable dew point hygrometer, Cermax. This is a high specification hygrometer providing 1˚C dew point accuracy, extremely fast response and a host of user-definable features, including data logging and multiple display options. The Intrinsically Safe, Cermax is also available as part of the rental scheme. Cermax I.S. offers all the features of Cermax, but is ATEX, FM and CSA certified for use in hazardous areas.

Other products available to hire include Easidew Portable and Optidew Vision. Easidew Portable is specifically designed to make in-field checks of the dew point in air and gases as simple and quick as possible. Weighing just 4 kg and with a measurement range of 100 to 20˚C, this hygrometer is versatile, rugged
(IP68 / NEMA 6P rated) and easy to use.

Optidew Vision is Michell"s premium cooled mirror precision dewpointmeter. The Vision works on the proven, fundamental, optical dew point measurement principle, providing unmatched and drift-free performance. It also offers a wide measurement range and 0.2˚C dew point accuracy and is proving popular with users of environmental chambers.

Michell Instruments can provide instruments from their process analyzer range. The hydrocarbon dew-point analyzer, Condumax II can be hired out on request, although different terms and conditions apply.
