Published:  22 June, 2018

Sophia Hatzelmann is the winner of this year’s Engineer Powerwoman award. She accepted the award and €5000, at the opening event of the WoMenPower careers conference.

The Engineer Powerwoman award represents Deutsche Messe’s tribute to women from the STEM disciplines whose commitment, ideas and work have made an innovative impact in the technical environment at their companies. The award was presented for the sixth time at this year’s WoMenPower conference.

Chaired by Dr. Barbara Schwarze of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, the jury saw in Sophia Hatzelmann a woman who was not only a successful engineer and entrepreneur, but who was also involved in the “FRAUEN unternehmen” (WOMEN enterprising) initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, which had her appearing at schools and universities. The jury said this made her an example for girls and women interested in technology and engaged in a corresponding career track.

Sophia Hatzelmann is an electrical engineer who has worked successfully as a project manager and consultant in the automotive and mechanical engineering industry for 20 years. She is the founder and managing director of the technical management consultancy ahc GmbH and is also involved in the international Augmania Augmented Reality startup, with responsibility for its European sales. Ms. Hatzelmann is one of ten Industry 4.0 scouts for the state of Baden-Württemberg and heads up the STEM commission of VdU (the Association of German Female Entrepreneurs).

This year’s careers conference once again attracted some 1400 attendees, making the WoMenPower careers conference one of the leading events for success strategies and innovative forms of work.

It is held every year as a component of HANNOVER MESSE. The conference featured a series of presentations, workshops and panel discussions as well as a supporting exhibition. This year, more than 50 companies, associations, networks, organisations and trainers informed visitors on career prospects, study programs, coaching and mentoring opportunities as well as on labor policy topics and trends.

The main sponsors of this year’s event were Amazon Web Services, AUDI, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), Deloitte, Porsche, Robert Bosch, SAP and WAGO Kontakttechnik.
