Academy announces major partnership with Boeing UK

A major new partnership between The Royal Academy of Engineering and Boeing UK has been announced that is aimed to help improve UK school pupils’ experience of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in up to 40 state maintained secondary schools across the UK.
The partnership will enable the Academy to recruit four specialist STEM teachers over 2017-18 to work in up to 40 schools to support STEM teachers in delivering an engaging and inspiring curriculum. The specialist teachers will form part of the Academy’s highly-successful Connecting STEM Teachers programme established in 2011 and currently active in 550 schools across the UK.
The programme aims to create a national network of support for teachers across all STEM subjects, ensuring they have the knowledge and confidence to engage a greater number and wider spectrum of school students with STEM.
Boeing UK will also support the development of high quality STEM teaching and learning resources for use across the Connecting STEM Teachers network.
Dr Rhys Morgan, the Academy’s director of engineering and education said: “The Academy is delighted to be partnering with Boeing UK in support of the Connecting STEM Teachers Programme, which during 2015-16 reached over 66,500 students in 550 schools across the UK. Boeing is a major presence in UK engineering and this is an exemplar investment in supporting the high-tech skills capabilities the country needs as it adjusts to the changed economic landscape. “This partnership will help teachers to inspire greater numbers of young people to pursue STEM careers and help address the skills crisis faced by UK industry.”
